Mansard roof a type of roof containing two sloping planes of different pitch on each of four sides. The style most favored by young artists when drawing a house it features a triangle shape created by two sloping faces of the roof meeting at the top ridge. A gambrel roof usually contains a gable at each end just like a standard gable roof. If you re looking for a classic silhouette for your home a gable roof is a sure bet.

The lower plane has a much steeper pitch than the upper often approaching vertical. They may end at the walls or extend past past them. The most familiar type of gable roof has roof decks of equal sizes that extend to the side walls. The opposite arrangement to the half hipped roof.

Steeper roofs require more materials to build. It contains no gables. Unlike these other roof styles gables can have not only a ridge vent but also gable vents hey go figure and intake ventilation such as soffit vents. Because of their simple layout having a properly ventilated roof is easier when you have a gable roof opposed to other roof styles like a hip mansard or gambrel roofs.

Most gable roofs have a slope between 3 12 in 7 6 30 5 cm vertical rise for every 12 in 30 cm horizontally. Gables can also adorn dormer windows and porches.
